The story behind this romantic vintage engagement shoot has “meant to be” written all over it! Kayla and Hunter met their senior year of high school in Grove City after she moved mid-year. Kayla had been dreaming of a vintage car engagement session, and fate brought her to me after she found a similar session I photographed. Grove City is my hometown too, and Kayla and I were actually classmates! Fate didn’t stop there for this enchanting engagement shoot. Kayla spotted this dream of a car from a sweet stranger, Mike, in the Dollar General parking lot (seriously, what are the odds?)! Mike kindly offered to let her use the car for her engagement shoot for free! (I think he’s a romantic at heart.) With all the pieces in place, we had our perfect set for their nostalgic classic car engagement photos.
This cute blue-green car is the epitome of rare vintage, as it is one of only 50 made as a Breakfast at Tiffany’s tribute! Kayla completed the classic look with their flawlessly styled outfits and hair.
We started at the antique Penn Grove Hotel in Grove City, and moved to a parking lot nearby. We ended at Lake Wilhelm in Sandy Lake, where we grabbed the dreamiest lakeside pictures at sunset. From start to finish this shoot is epic!
Adding something special like a gorgeous classic car or taking photos somewhere unexpected can add the perfect spark to your engagement session. From classic car engagement photos to drinks at “your spot,” here are a few ideas for your engagement session (especially if you want a similar vintage, nostalgic feel).
There is something innately romantic about a picnic in a park or by a lake. It also happens to make beautiful photos! Including your favorite foods or treats in your session could be a sweet way to make it your own.
I know you might be thinking, “Who wants to break a sweat during their photo session?” But hear me out! A scenic kayak excursion along the lakeshore or a leisurely hike is a fun and unconventional way to get stunning photos. If you get a little camera shy, doing something you enjoy together can ease your nerves and help you focus on something else. You can find a few of my favorite Lake Erie locations here.
Nothing screams timeless like a local diner! There’s a reason so many of our favorite sitcoms involve a cute diner (think Friends or Gilmore Girls). Order a milkshake with two straws and you’ve got the recipe for a romantic photo op. Other ideas could include an old school arcade or roller rink. These spots make for fun and charming pictures!
Carnivals and the like are full of excitement and lively festivities! From playing games and sharing delicious fair food to taking a ride on a Ferris wheel, there are so many possibilities for captivating pictures. Bonus points if you win a stuffed animal!
Pictures at a local coffee shop or bar can make for some intimate photos that deviate from the norm. Colorful cocktails can add a splash of personality and fun to your session. Plus, there are some really fun romantic poses we can try with bar stools and booths. Your engagement session can be a great way to slow down and spend quality time together.
Your engagement session is a great opportunity to use unconventional ideas to showcase your love for one another. Whether you have a particular idea in mind or need some inspiration, I would love to help you shoot the creative engagement session of your dreams! Connect with me here to get started.
