I’m completely head over heels for these editorial vibes. These two have the high-fashion Vogue style going on, and I happened to know of a few prime Pittsburgh locations to emphasize their look even more. If you’re going for an editorial or fine-art style for your engagement session, downtown Pittsburgh lends itself to gorgeous compositional elements—you just have to know where to look.
Want couple’s portraits that look like stills from a romantic movie? Let’s head to the city! We can create magic with an urban cityscape. Skyline and mural shots are fun, and if you’re brave enough to try something new, I’m your gal! I specialize in artistic photography compositions. An epic location is just part of the magic. Knowing how to capture you in it is key to stunning portraits, and I would be thrilled to help with that!
Don’t worry; these won’t look like your average courthouse photos! The Allegheny County Courthouse features Roman Revival-style architecture that photographs so beautifully. The architectural details like the entryway steps, smooth and natural stone, and arched wooden doors provide quite a bit for us to work with. In addition to the entryway, the Bridge of Sighs and Courthouse Courtyard also lend themselves to interesting images. If you’re looking for a bit of historic architecture to add variety to your urban session, let’s head to the courthouse!
In contrast, Mellon Square offers pops of lush greenery (or colorful fall foliage). The variety of brick colors and contrasting dark and light geometric pavement give your photos a modern metropolitan feel. Plus, there’s lots of space for you to stroll, dance, and just be yourselves for candid portraits. You’ll probably get a few “awws” and whistles when you plant a sweet kiss or end a dance with a dip. This area is a lot of fun! As far as Pittsburgh locations go, this is probably the most versatile.
Third and Fourth Avenue is considered a historic district of Pittsburgh, near PPG Place and Market Street. Although you can find many of the city’s original buildings like the Union Trust Building and quite a few banks, the area has been renovated to maintain its upscale aesthetic appeal (far from old and run down). This area features a beautiful balance of modern architecture and ornate historical details. I can use leading lines between the buildings to make you stand out as the focal point (i.e., really cool wall-worthy portraits!)
I can’t give away all my secrets, but when you book with me, I have a couple of great rooftops I can use for gorgeous sunset skyline portraits.
Note: It’s important to have approval for rooftop pictures. Some places do not allow them or provide access to the public. I’m happy to help with that!
And finally, like a starry-night kiss at the end of a movie, the Liberty Bridge provides the dreamiest backdrop for post-sunset photos. You have to get the timing juuuust right for these when the glow from the golden hour is fading and the blues and purples settle in. The lights from the bridge, buildings, and traffic add an extra romantic sparkle over the river. I think the photos speak for themselves—enjoy!
